5G and Other New Technologies Need Additional Infrastructure, Says NCC’s ECSM

According to Mr. Adeleke Adewolu, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management (ECSM), Nigerian Communications Commission, network operators must build out additional infrastructure to cover new, largely rural areas as customer volumes and service diversity continue to rise (NCC).

On World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2023 in Abuja, he made the remark.

Emerging technologies like 5th Generation (5G) mobile services would necessitate greater infrastructure, according to the NCC’s ECSM.

Adewolu emphasized that World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is unquestionably one of the most significant dates in the NCC’s calendar of events for the year.

It’s a day we set aside to honor our consumers, who are our most significant stakeholder group.

“This year, we’re focusing our festivities on a subject that enables us to create more environmentally sustainable service models so that we can really provide better service to our customers, and I’m delighted to welcome you all to this inaugural session.

“Empowering Consumers through Clean Energy Transition” is the focus of WCRD 2023. This theme enables us to properly consider the unexpected environmental consequences of our vital social infrastructure.

The Consumer Index for Nigerian Telecoms keeps rising

As of the end of January 2023, “the Nigerian telecoms industry boasts of over 226 million voice customers and over 156 million internet customers.”

These consumers depend on the communications infrastructure for things like social contact, access to healthcare, banking, and education.

5G and Other Developing Technologies Need More Infrastructure

Network operators must build more infrastructure to cover new, primarily rural areas and expand their networks in overcrowded urban markets as consumer volumes and service diversity continue to rise. More infrastructure will be needed for emerging technologies like 5th Generation (5G) mobile services.
