Medallion Prepares for a Rebrand to Digital Realty, Inaugurates a New Data Center in Lagos.

Medallion Data Centres Limited, the leading carrier-neutral data centre operator in Nigeria, has announced its official rebranding to Digital Realty, a prominent global provider of carrier-neutral data center services. The rebranding event is scheduled for October 27, 2023, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Simultaneously, Medallion has unveiled the launch of its second data center, LOS2, in Lagos. Scheduled to commence operations on October 24, the cutting-edge facility will provide an additional one megawatt of IT capacity to clients.

Positioned on Medallion’s Victoria Island campus, LOS2 will be seamlessly interconnected with the existing LOS1 data center, renowned as the most interconnected facility in the West African sub-region and the primary peering point for the area. This integration makes the campus an optimal hub for subsea cable, metro fiber, mobile services, over-the-top providers, and Nigeria’s Internet Exchange Point (IXPN), enabling efficient connectivity and fostering the growth of customer bases. Notably, more than 68% of IXPN’s traffic is currently exchanged at Medallion’s data center in Lagos, underscoring its pivotal role in Nigeria’s connectivity landscape.

Furthermore, LOS2 will facilitate access to the 2Africa subsea cable system through diverse fiber routes to Medallion’s LKK1 facility, supporting the operations of the 2Africa subsea cable system and ensuring reliable, high-speed connections across 46 locations in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Having played a crucial role in Nigeria’s digital economy for over a decade, Medallion has solidified its position as the preferred provider of swift, efficient, and cost-effective data center and connectivity services, particularly in instances where time to market and affordability are paramount.

The rebranding event will host key figures from Nigeria’s telecommunications and IT industry, celebrating Medallion’s clientele, the inauguration of the new data center, and the company’s rebranding journey.

Digital Realty’s acquisition of Medallion in 2021 signified a significant milestone in the company’s Pan-African expansion strategy. Demonstrating a strong commitment to Africa’s technology infrastructure, Digital Realty has pledged an investment of over US$2 billion over the next decade, with recent progress marked by strategic acquisitions and expansions, including the acquisition of South Africa’s leading carrier-neutral data center and interconnection services provider, Teraco, in August 2022.
