Schumer Believes that Tiktok Ban In The US Should Be Considered

Coming March, The CEO of Tiktok will Testify before Congress

US Senator Chuck Schumer stated that a plan to outlaw TikTok in the US “should be looked at.”

“We are aware that the corporation that controls TikTok is owned by Chinese individuals. And some members of the Commerce Committee are currently looking into it, according to Schumer, the Senate majority leader, in an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Sunday. We’ll wait and watch how they behave.

Republican senator from Florida Marco Rubio and independent senator from Maine Angus King announced on Friday that they have presented new legislation that would forbid TikTok from operating in the US unless it severed relations with its existing owner.

ByteDance, one of the most valuable private corporations in China, is the owner of TikTok.

Apple and Google are urged by a Democratic senator to remove TikTok from their app stores.

US government representatives have voiced concerns about the possibility that China could use its legal system to push TikTok or ByteDance into turning over US user data that could be used for intelligence or misinformation purposes.

According to a CNN study, these concerns led the US government to prohibit TikTok from government-owned devices, and more than half of US states have followed suit.

Ad Feedback TikTok has previously disputed the allegations, claiming that it does not share information with the Chinese government and that a US-based security team determines who is permitted access to US customer data coming from China.

An further request for response was made on Monday morning, Asia time, but the corporation did not answer right away.

Coming March, the CEO of TikTok will testify before Congress.

According to a statement from a House committee, the CEO of TikTok, Singaporean Shou Zi Chew, will appear before Congress in March about issues such as TikTok’s privacy and data security policies, its effects on teenage users, and its “link to the Chinese Communist Party.”

In the past, the business has stated that it appreciates “the chance to clear the air regarding TikTok, ByteDance, and the promises we are making.”

The TikTok representative continued, “We hope that by disclosing specifics of our comprehensive plans to the full Committee, Congress may take a more deliberate approach to the issues at hand.
