Actis-backed In Lagos State, Rack Center opened its newest data center. The data center, known as Rack Centre LGS 2, is located on a greenfield site measuring 20,000 square meters (215,280 square feet).
The data center, which includes the LGS1 data center, will provide 3,240 sq m (34,875 sq ft) of lettable space and 13.5 MW of net IT load. This represents a significant increase over the LGS1, which, following expansion in 2021, will have an IT load of 1.5 MW over 1,094 sqm.
ITB Nigeria, who served as the principal contractor for the Gateway Real Estate-built Africa Data Center in Eko Atlantic City, is the main contractor on this project.
The first announcement of the groundbreaking was made during a recent tour of their current building. The Lagos Campus data center has developed into the largest carrier and cloud-neutral digital infrastructure hub in West Africa, and with this expansion, we intend to further grow our thriving ecosystem,” said Rack Centre’s COO, Ezekiel Egboye, who also expressed his company’s joy at being a part of the continent’s ongoing digital transformation.
It is noteworthy to mention that as of September 2020, Rack Center announced a $100 million investment for the expansion of its operations, and the 13.5MW Rack Centre LGS 2 was one of the proposed data centers to be built.
Early last year, we wrote about how data center expansions are taking over Lagos and mentioned some recently launched data centers.
